Fall and Winter Survival Tips

We are no stranger to frigid, freezing cold fall and winter months in Wadena, MN. Students of Minnesota State Community and Technical College can turn to campus events and community fun to fight off boredom. Here are our top four tips for surviving northern Minnesota winter blues.

1. Get to know M State campus

Know what events are going on throughout the year! Concerts and student organized events are a great way to meet people and to avoid boredom in-between classes. Spend some time in the library or grabbing a bite to eat with friends.

2. Utilize the fitness center

Can’t leave campus? Pack a bag with workout gear and jump on the treadmill or lift some weights. Exercising regularly is especially important during cold months when we do not spend much time outside. It helps stimulate your brain and fends off the blues.

3. Support local business

Winter months are not only hard on you, they are difficult for local businesses as well. Stopping into a local coffee shop before class or visiting the community theatre is an awesome way to spend time with friends, family, or a significant other!

4. Safety first!

If you can’t safely make it into class - don’t. Our student’s safety is our top priority. Class will be cancelled if necessary, but we can’t always plan for the weather. Take caution and use your best judgement. Always pack your car with an emergency kit.

Moral of the story - winter can be difficult for everyone in Minnesota! Survive by making friends and participating, keeping your body healthy and happy, supporting the local businesses you love, and by keeping safety a top priority!
